A native of Denver, Colorado, Talia Berenbaum is a composer and freelancer based out of Rochester, New York. Her music draws on many sources, combining the avant-garde, Jewish folk music, and traditional European classical music. Her compositions and arrangements have been performed around Rochester, including the 2022 Women in Music Festival and numerous student recitals. She has studied composition with Daniel Pesca, Robert Morris, Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, and Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, and trombone with Mark Kellogg, Tim Smith, and Paul Naslund.

She also is active as a performer, having performed with OSSIA and Musica Nova, having gigged around Rochester, and having played the main stage at the Rochester Lilac Festival with the Lilac Quintet. In 2022 she was the recipient of the Belle Gitelman Award for Excellence in Composition for her piece “Techniques for Two Trombones and Piano,” in 2023 her piece "A Yiddish Fantasy" was awarded the Bernard Rogers Memorial Prize and won Honorable Mention in the Israel-Pellman Prize in composition. Her next project is a commission to create a sound installation for OSSIA in spring 2024.

Talia holds a BM in Composition and Applied Trombone ('24) at the Eastman School of Music and works towards an MM in Composition at Eastman.

In addition to her work as a musician, Talia enjoys crocheting and spending time with her dog, Sava.
